The Competition

I didn’t know I was in it.

Got volunteered the day they hired me.

I did not know I was sweating too much, opening a valve too fast, or working too much by myself.

But, if I asked for help, I opened up a whole new competition.

They bragged about how much they told me, how much they lifted for me, or how fast they completed a job before me.

I did not know I volunteered for this competition.

I just wanted to pay my bills just like everyone else.

I cannot help if this profession is me.

I do not want the extra sweat, the added muscles, the stares, the questions, and the male attire that comes with the profession.

But, God has allowed me to endure the challenges of this competition.

The hard hats, the steel toe boots, the body harnesses, the goggles, the earplugs, and yes, the sweat.

Didn’t know I was in it, got volunteered the day they hired me.
